DID SOMEONE SAY THERE ARE FIREWORKS THIS WEEKEND?

Fear of thunderstorms and fireworks is a common concern for dog owners. When the pet displays fear or anxiety..panting, whining, drooling, digging at carpet or furniture it can be quite up...setting for them and us. Here is just a few tips, unfortunately it is not an easy fix:

-try not to console, stroke or pat the pet - it generally does not calm them down and usually increases the anxiety by the message " you are doing a good thing that is why I am patting you "
-with a pending storm or fireworks, close the windows and turn up the music. Try and distract the pet by playing with favourite toys together
-allow your dog to hide, go in a dark closet or their crate - they will feel secure in a smaller place

If anxiety increases with each event - speak to us about medications that may help.
